Abstract | The new political order installed in Spain after the civil war changed the destiny of men and women. In a masculine society, in the school, segregating roles, the basic role of each sex was established through specific subjects. Everybody supported the ideology defended by the "Falange" and established that the post-war women's mission was the home, they kept them in private, leaving the public sphere to the action of men. The "Sección Feminina", following the orders of the administration, was the institution in charge of women so that they could fulfil the role of spouses, mothers and being in charge of the homes. The women's education in the Canary Islands followed the rules dictated by the norm for the whole of the Spanish state, but influenced by the specificities of the Islands. (DIPF/Orig.) |
