Abstract | Four of the articles ot the "Open File" in this issue of "Prospects" come from a conference on constructivism in education in Geneva, Switzerland, 4 - 8 Sept. 2000 which was supported by the Jean Piaget Archives Foundation. "The choice of subject goes straight to the heart of the great scholar's oeuvre: it seemed important to explore the notion of ' constructivism' as a means of highlighting the contributions and the limitations, in educational terms, of Piaget's theory of cognitive development and the genesis of knowledge." J.-J. Ducret in his introducing article analyses Piaget's contribution to education. The four mentioned papers apply to the fields of epistemology, pschology, educationsl psychology and didactics, namely: E. V. Glasersfeld: Radical constructivism and teaching (aims of education and concept construction); J. Bideaut: Forms of constructivism, cognitive development and number learning; A. Weil-Barais: Constructivist approaches and the teaching of science.; M. Brossard: Construction of knowledge and writing practices. Two articles not from the conference are included: Y. Kato and C. Kamii: Piaget's constructivism and childhood education in Japan; L. de Macedo: The current state of constructivism in Brazil. (DIPF/Bi.). |
