| Abstract | This article sheds light on the concept of imagination which has come into sharp focus in the recent literature having to do with globalization, equity and race. ... The context is British colonialism, and the curriculum and how it was dispensed in the late colonial period in Trinidad and Tobago embody the framework from which data are drawn. A mix of sources is used to enhance the data set. ... The article claims that the development of imagination was mediated through the colonial state, contrary to the contemporary processes by which imagination transcends national boundaries and emerges today in a variety of ways. ... The article reviews the major curriculum ideologies that framed action during the period under investigation, and some examples of the apparatuses used in the nurturance of colonial imagination follow. The exercise concludes with an interpretation of how imagination was mediated in the circumstances. ( DIPF/orig.) |
