Abstract	The Second Colloquy of the European Centre for Modern Languages brought together experts from over thirty countries to discuss a topic of major interest to the future of education in Europe: Diversification in modern language teaching and learning, and how it might be achieved. At the same time, the Colloquy underlined the willingness and the potential for cooperation and synergy between the European Centre for Modern Languages and Direcotrate General XXII of the European Commission. The event ... was dedicated to discussing ways of ensuring diversification in modern language learning and teaching in Europe, with special focus on the situation in central and eastern Europe. In a series of roundtables and workshops, colloquy participants explored the complex problem of providing appropriate learning options at all stages, from early language learning to adult education. The colloquy made a clear statement in favour of continued efforts towards a multilingual Europe while, in the face of divergent local needs and conditions, the suggestion to "diversify diversification" seemed the most realistic option.
