Abstract	"In the context of growing European integration it is not only national educational systems, but also a variety of other systems, cultural, racial, or ethnic, that are brought into closer temporal and spatial proximity ...". The author argues that, socio-cultural, educational, and social-theoretical systems become more complex and differentiated. In the first section he discusses a typology of cultural differentiation and integration as basic ways: compartmentalised mode of integration; the monologic type of integration; syncretic integration; poly-logic or communicativce integration. The second section reviews "how the four types can be useful for making sense on what is happening today in multicultural Europe on both the broader cultural and the educational levels: the socio-cultural level, the higher educational level, the socio- theoretical level.
