Abstract | This handbook provides a comparative approach to the main trends in the development of public cultural policies in Europe. What are the stated objectives of public policies? How are they organised and funded? What sectors do they cover? How do they deal with audiences, with artists? All these questions are tackled by the authors and illustrated by extracts from cultural policy reviews of eight European countries (Austria, Estonia, Finland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, the Russian Federation and Sweden). This is the first volume of a training series which is designed for trainers in arts management and their students, as well as for policy makers and others involved in cultural co-operation in Europe. The second volume focuses on the evaluation of cultural policies, the third on regions and decentralisation. (DIPF/orig.). |
