Abstract | "This book presents workshop results and recommendations of an international history teachers' conference jointly held by Euroclio and the Körber Foundation". It presents and discusses the results of a survey of 14 to 15-year-olds in 24 countries in Europe plus Israel, Palestine and Turkey. The conference focused on four issues of the survey results: 1) Is history teaching up to date? 2) Are teachers and students attending the same lessons? (Teachers and students were asked "What does usually happen in your history lessons? What do you concentrate on? (aims of learning history)? 3) Can our pupils fit into the shoes of sombody else? (i. e. those questions of the survey "which provide informations on whether or not students develop the specific skills needed for historical reasoning and to what degree)". 4) Are teachers able and willing to be innovative in the learning and teaching of history?
