Abstract	The focus of this book is on the "European dimension" of the LEONARDO da Vinci survey and analysis projects in the field of vocational education and training. It raises three basic questions: 1) How could research contribute to building 'a European dimension' in vocational education and training? 2) How can research in vocational education and training properly reflect a European diversity of systems, research traditions and infrastructures, that is, degrees of institutionalisation of research in the field of vocational education, and various scientific disciplines? 3) What are the consequences of diversity in the framing of research issues, and in the use of research methodologies and tools?
