| Abstract | The book focuses largely on the consequences of certain globalizing practices at the university level and for the academic staff. Chapter 2 contextualizes the study, giving a brief overview of the national system of each country studied (University of Oslo, Norway.- University of Twente, Netherlands. - University of Avignon, France. - Boston College, USA) and a description of each university discussing the methodology used. Each of chapters 3 to 7 investigates a particular practice, initially reviewing the literature and theoretical positions, then analyzing the policies adopted within the four countries and respective universities, and finally presenting the empirical finding and discussing differences in the responses between universities to these globalizing practices.
