Abstract	This book presents the reading achievement results for the 35 participating countries and data about pertinent home, school, and classroom contexts for learning to read. In 8 chapters the following topics are discussed: international student achievement in reading; achievement in reading for literary experience and reading to acquire and use information; performance at international benchmarks; literacy-related activities in the home; school curriculum and organization for teaching reading; teachers and reading instruction; school contexts; students' reading attitudes, self-concept, and out-of- school activities.
