Abstract	The synthesis report summarises the main topics, findings and conclusions of vocational education and training (VET) research in Europe. This publication continues the reporting series Cedefop started in 1998. The aim of the reports is to give a comprehensive overview on the state of the art of VET research in Europe and to discuss its implications for policy, practice and future research. Some key issues addressed in this second report include: steering VET systems, funding and the changing roles of VET professionals; leaming and training within the context of lifelong learning; training, employment and development of human resources in a company perspective; labour market dynamics and their impact on skills and competences; individual performance, social exclusion and transition to work; VET research in selected non-EU countries.
