| Abstract | "This book is about how schools can improve using self-evaluation. It draws on a large body of research literature to make the case but leans most heavily on a [...] European Socrates Project called 'Evaluation Quality in School Education'. This involved 101 schools in eighteen countries, all of whom agreed to work with a common approach while at the same time developing thinking and practice within the context of their own cultures and histories." The books demonstrates a practical approach to identifying what makes a good school and the part that pupils, parents and teachers can play in school improvement. The first section deals with the story of change seen through the eyes of an individual fictitious student, from the perspective of her mother, her teacher, her headteacher and a critical friend. The second part describes the key elements of the research project, e.g. the self-evaluation profile, the toolbox of approaches and the role of the critical friends. The last chapter describes case studies of individual schools in Belgium, Scotland, Austria and Sweden. (Orig./PRO). |
