Abstract	It has been observed that gender stereotyping is still prevalent in the text and pictures of books produced by the Children's Book Project (CBP). It is not known whether the authors of these books are gender sensitive and whether there are differences in gender sensitivity between women and men. The study was guided by two research objectives: To find out 1) whether books written by women are more gender sensitive than than books written by men and 2) what kind of messages the pictures convey to pupils where their career aspirations are concerned. Methods used for data collection were document analysis and action research through asking pupils to draw pictures about their career choices. The findings of this study indicate that books ... were gender biased, particularly when depicting women in relation to their domestic chores, personal capacity and achievement, ownership of wealth, use of technology and skills.
