Abstract | This publication is primarily based on outcomes of the Round Table organised jointly by the European Training Foundation and the Slovenian Phare VET Reform Programme Management Unit in Bohinj, Slovenia from October 4-6, 1998.... There is statistical evidence in the Central and Eastem Europe countries that especially school leavers and adults with no or low levels of qualifications are most vulnerable to unemployment. Awareness of this problem and the need for specific measures is rising in these countries in order to reduce the risk of social marginalisation.... Three main themes emerged from the Round Table: The importance of actions to prevent social exclusion, such as the improvement of the quality of education and training and rendering vocational education and training more relevant to labour market needs; the need to promote awareness about the requirements of specific target groups and approaches to vocational education and training for students requiring assistance; the need to promote awareness of continuing training measures for young adults who do not possess employable skills.... Experience within the EU and elsewhere should be seen as an example of "good practice" rather than a wholly transferable model. (DIPF/orig.). |
