Abstract	First, the author briefly highlights main aspects which have been important influential determinants of possible changes in the area of the organisation of teaching and learning in European higher education: Diversification through the development of alternative sectors in higher education; specific structures of degree courses and programmes; political reforms in higher education; the relaltionship between secondary and tertiary institutions; expectations from the labor market; the European integration process as one of the most consequential determining factors in the near future; students learning as a measure of institutional efficiency. Second, the author turns to a short account of the contributions which are included in the above mentioned volume. (HoF/St.).
