Abstract | The book describes the findings of a long-term, comprehensive longitudinal study conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Psychological Research in Munich from 1984 to 1993. The major goal of the study was to analyze developmental changes in the cognitive, social and personality domain and to explore possible interrelationships in developmental changes across domains. A sample of about 200 children was first tested in 1984 when they were almost 4 years old ... Children's cognitive, social and personality development was followed up on a regular basis (2 - 3 times a year) for about 9 years. Data analyses focused on both the issue of continuity versus discontinuity of the developmental function in the various domains and on the issue stability or variability in interindividual differences in developmental change.
