Abstract	The current EU trend towards international faculty mobility (IFM) does not stand on its own. Nowadays for most faculty members within the EU and beyond, international travelling, forms an integral part of their academic work. For others, however, professional and personal circumstances hinder their actual international mobility. In this article it is assumed that faculty members play a catalytic role in the development of internationalization and consequently the creation of a European dimension of universities and their departments ... . The international activities of faculty members may include, for example, publications, attendance at international conferences, electronic communication or membership of a European editorial board. The focus of this article though, is the geographical and physical mobility of academics. (DIPF/text taken from the original).
