Abstract	It became clear to the group that many colleagues and students may have a negative view of Europe, based largely on how the media portray the European Union and that there was need to "sell the European dimension" very carefully and be conscious of how it was "packaged". It was felt by the group that the following sequence of events needed to be implemented for this to happen: 1. In-service education of teachers (INSET) was needed to provide guidance on what can be learnt from the exchange of ideas and materials between teachers and pupils. 2. Cooperation needs to be developed between teachers on joint projects, preferably across frontiers. 3. Materials needed to be created. This process was necessary in order to put our concept of borders, frontiers and territory into a workable perspective. 4. It was also clear from the outset that a definition of the meanings of "border" and "frontier" in English (as compared to "frontière" and "Grenzen") was necessary.
