| Abstract | All levels of U. S. governments have made use of commissions of experts "to produce reports geared toward diagnosing problems and prescribing remedies." This book explores the working of such commissions. It is divided into three parts: 1) In "procedures and consumers of reform reports" persons "who participated in the writing of severable notable reports, as well as policy makers and school practicioners who were in a position to react to commission recommendations" analyse the work and impact of reports such as "A Nation at Risk", "A Nation Prepared: Teachers for the 21st Century", the reports of the Committee for Economic Development, focusing on "Investing in Our Children", one State report (South Carolina Comprehensive School Reform) and one local task force report (Pittsburgh). 2) In the section "Analysing reform reports" several commission reports are analysed in respect of their language, their impact and real significance, their "substance and symbolism". 3) The third section "focuses on issues excluded or minimally treated in the reform reports". These issues are "gender and partiarchy", handicapped students and minority students. (DIPF/Bi.). |
