Abstract	This is a compilation of texts of European Community legislation and programmes concerning social and educational policy. The ten chapters deal with the following topics: 1. Economic and legal framework for social policy within the Community framework (A hesitant start, The social action programme, The original European Social Fund, Reform of the Structural Funds and Social Policy, Fresh revision of the Social Fund, The Social Charter), 2. Free movement of workers(The common labour market, Social security for migrant workers, Other measures in favour of migrant workers), 3. Freedom of establishment an recognition of diplomas (Right of establishment, Recognition of diplomas), 4. Employment policy (ECSC redeployment aid, EEC institutional machinery, Community employment initiatives), 5. Education and vocational training (The foundations of training and educational policies, Programmes for the training of young persons, Training and technological change), 6. Living and working conditions (The instruments of the policy, Social dialogue, Worker participation, Social protection, Equal treatment for men and women, Measures in favour of the disabled, Action to combat poverty), 7.
