Abstract | "In Spain ... financial support for students is socially considered a private matter and student costs are therefore principally supported by the family. The national student aid programme is very poor." Students generally do not have a job, not even a temporary one. "The costs of living and most costs related to studies are not the object of public policies. Hence, there is very little information on student expenditure." The authors describe and analyse the available statistical data concerning 1) educational and student expenditure (tuition fees, costs of living), 2) the national programme of student aid and its financial amount, 3) other direct financial support, 4) support from the individual universities, 5) parents' and students' contributions. Finally, the authors analyse the failures in the national student aid system. (DIPF/Bi.) |
