Abstract | This paper will discuss the relevance of international comparative studies for evaluating and monitoring the quality of education systems.... It will focus mainly on first results of the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), which at present is being conducted under the auspices of the ... IEA. [The focus hereby is on what data to collect]. The results of TIMSS will be used to illustrate the premise of this paper and the relevance of the IEA's mission: to contribute through international comparative studies to enhancing the quality of education. It will show by example how IEA-types of study may serve educational policy makers and practitioners. (DIPF/orig.). |
