Abstract | US accreditation is best understood as a set of review processes that are completed by other quality assurance procedures organized by state and federal agencies as well as by universities themselves. This article describes US accreditation processes within this larger context of accountability and reviews some of the continuing debates over ways to improve accreditation. Several key issues - gathering evidence and making use of expert judgement - have received considerable attention by accrediting agencies over the last few decades. (DIPF/orig.) |
