| Abstract | The subject of this essay is the problem of interpersonal communication caused by divergent concepts of "face" as held by groups of different ethnic and / or sociocultural origin. The target is to develop an educational strategy of integrative cross-cultural conflict solution through intercultural understanding. A definition of the cultural bond character of "face" and "loss of face" with several illustrations is followed by two autobiographical narrations which show how "face negotiation" is perceived in a situative context by children and adolescents. Finally, alternative fictitious conflict solutions are presented reflecting the underlying differences in value concepts as reason for misunderstanding. (DIPF/orig.) |
