Abstract | The formation of an independent state in Slovenia in 1991 is seen in this article as a great demand and challenge for education generally in the process of transforming economic and social systems. The author characterizes the basic features of the present Slovenian VET system and points out the advantages and disadvantages of a centralised VET system. Then he focuses on those general objectives of the educational reform which are affecting the various parties involved in the VET reform. The following part is dedicated to the development of key qualifications as a basis for transforming VET in Slovenia. He shows qualification as a social phenomenon, defines the components of key qualification and reviews how far an economy in transition should influence the (re)training process. The final part gives a brief description of the educational system in Slovenia with special regard to vocational education and training. (DIPF/St.) |
