| Abstract | This contribution takes a glance at the future of training policies and programmes and starts out by enumerating the different characteristics of the future that European training needs to address. The consequences of this evolution are numerous and far reaching, and it is noted in particular that priority must be given to include, not to exclude, that training must be oriented towards learning, not teaching, it must be customer, not provider driven, and it must take into account new learning technologies. And if the education and training markets are the fastest growing markets in the world, investing in people should become the first preoccupation of all policy- makers in Europe.
