Abstract | In this article the system of external quality assessment in university education in the Netherlands is described and analysed. In this system two components may be distinguished: the assessment itself and the follow-up of the assessment. The two components are the responsibility of seperate organisations. Assessment of university education programmes in the Netherlands occur as programme reviews governed by the VSNU, the Association of Universities in the Netherlands. VSNU is a private organisation financed and governed by the fourteen Dutch universities collectively. For each discipline in the system of programme reviews a team of independent experts asses the education programmes of the different universities in that discipline. The follow-up of the assessment is the responsibility of the Inspectorate for Higher Education in the Netherlands, an independent agency, instated by the Government. It involves both a meta-evaluation of the assessment process itself as well as a check on whether and to what extent the recommendations from the Visitation Committees have been implemented.(DIPF/Abstract übernommen) |
