Abstract	"Science in French" is a week-long programme of educational activities offered by a major modern museum, the Cité des Sciences et de l' Industrie à Paris-La Villette, to young Europeans aged 15 to 18 who have been learning French for at least three years, and their teachers. The programme forms part of the museum's educational mission and, while falling within the general framework of Villette classes, is innovative on a number of points: it requires the building of a multi-disciplinary team around an educational project which is long term, includes the training of the teachers who will take the class to the Cité, and has the twin aims of improving pupils' knowledge of both French and science, using a science topic taught in French with the aid of the staff and museum materials of the Cité. The programme is intended for young Europeans, and also gives them time to explore the wonders of Paris, etc. This is the experience described here, from its beginnings in 1991 to the prospects which it opens up for other museums willing to enter into dynamic partnership with education and European cultural exchange.
