Abstract | During decades, theoretical models in organizational studies have developed from a closed-systems perspective (the Weberian model of organizations, 1947) toward a treatment of organizations as open systems, from a bounded view of organizations toward a recognition of the importance of environments and institutionalization, and from a focus on structures toward an exploration of institutionalized processes. These theoretical developments are mirrored in the literatur on academic organizations. Studies of higher education now emphasize environments, power, organizational culture, and internal political processes. Content: Youn, Ted I. K./Murphy, Patricia B.: Volume Introduction. - I.
