Abstract | The present documentation contains an overview of bilateral cooperation activities in the field of higher education between the 15 Member States of the European Union on the one hand and Japan on the other. The data is based on information obtained by means of a comprehensive survey carried out on behalf of the European Commission (DG XXII, Education, Training and Youth) and by the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA).... The focus of the survey is on schemes for the mobility of students, academic staff and researchers, but also aims to encompass initiatives for curricular and other institutional development. It covers, insofar as the data were available, schemes which support cooperation with Japan among other target countries, as well as initiatives aimed exclusively at Japan. The primary objective is the assembly of comprehensive data on higher education cooperation, but where information was available on other post-secondary initiatives of particular interest, these have been included. Individual cooperation agreements between higher education institutions are not the primary focus of the survey, but mention is made of European public foundations and other institutions active in this field where the data were available.... The survey is structured into four parts. Part one introduces background, purpose, scope, method and structure of the survey. In part two a brief synthesis of the detailed country data material to be found in part three is given. Part four consists of an overview from the Japanese perspective. (DIPF/orig.). |
