Abstract | The ISO 9001 and 9002 standards are suitable frameworks for the implementation of a quality assurance system with providers of education and training. The tangible and often compulsory requirements (quality policy, quality manual and procedures, regular audits, ...) provide an overall, measurable framework for quality efforts, as opposed to less systematic and more qualitative improvement approaches. The main advantages of the ISO 9000 arrangements - compared to other quality assurance approaches are: 1) ISO 9000 certification combines four aspects at once: a comprehensive quality system, a credible assessment of it, formal certification and recognition, and a guarantee of ongoing maintenance and improvement; 2) the value fo ISO 9000 is appreciated by the different customers of education and training; 3) ISO 9000 is easily recognized internationally.
