Abstract | The author describes Norwegian experiences in employment training in her contribution. She shows how even the most intensive vocational adult education programmes cannot substitute the learning and qualifying processes in 'real work life'. Even in employment training, the beneficiaries are the ones with higher level of previous education and work-experience, thus paradoxically these systems seem to strengthen exclusion. A possible conclusion from her paper could be that a strength of apprenticeship-type of vocational education could lie in its potential of offering crucial 'real work life' experiences to students.
