Abstract | Traditionally, there have been strong ties between the Municipality of Eijsden and the neighbouring French-speaking municipalities, on a political, economic and social level. Against this background, the team, the parents and the Governing Board of the OBS Mesch opted to introduce French in their school. Pupils learn to understand and to use the French language in all types of situation, which they will come across in their own everyday experience. French is not offered as a separate subject. French is used as an instructional language in such subjects as mathematics, language classes, science, geography, history, music, etc. The teaching is provided on a daily basis by a native speaker, to all pupils from class two to class eight, for between 30 and 45 minutes. Because there is little or no teaching material available, the teaching staff will have to develop the resources, for themselves. (DIPF/taken from the summary). |
