Abstract | This book consists of two parts: 1) In "Thematic discussion" a) it is shown how increasing parental involvement is included into the national school policies of the observed countries, b) the two main forms of collective parental decision-making are analyzed: "representation on policy decision-making bodies at national, regional or local level ... and involvement in the governance of individual schools", c) the involvement of parents as individuals is described in its main forms: "their involvement in the life of the school or classroom in general, and their involvement as support to their individual child", d) the idea of partnership between school and parents is discussed. 2) Country summaries describe how these issues are realized in the observed countries.
