Abstract | Hofstede's four dimensions "relate to basic issues that all cultures must face. The basic issues involve: 1) human inequality, 2) uncertainty about the future, 3) the relationship between the individual and the collective, and 4) the duality of the sexes.... This study directly examines the responses of Egyptian and American students to items developed" from predictions about "ways in which these four dimensions would be manifested in the classroom." A 20-item scale measuring the educational values and beliefs was administered to a sample of 152 native English-speaking students in an U. S. university and (in Arabic translation) to 154 Arabic speakers studying at the American University in Cairo. The article shows and analyses congruences and differences between the two student populations. (DIPF/Text übernommen/Bi.). |
