Abstract | Although being a Czech, Jan Kadyvy belongs to the Slovak culture. The author of the present study deals with his life and work and introduces him as a supporter of a Czech-Slovak mutuality , as a teacher, a pedagogue, a musician and culture worker. Being a teacher in "folk" schools, he followed Comenius' ideas. He loved Slovakia and he liked to come back. In the 19th century he belonged among the best Slovak teachers in national schools, therefore he became a professor in the preparatory class of Martin-city gymnasium. He was also famous for texbook writing for "folk" schools. Even Kadavy's Reader for small childern, published in 1845, and Small Singer (1873) were well accepted by the critics. Kadavy understood junior pupils very well, and he was also well educated in pedagogic theory. As a successful writer, he contributed to children magazines. Kadavy arrived in Slovakia in order to improve Slovak education system. In the year 1861 he elaborated a curriculum of the national school. ...(DIPF/Abstract übernommen) |
