| Abstract | The findings presented in this article form part of a more extensive study of rural youth in Trinidad and Tobago. A questionnaire was administered to a sample of 300 rural youth on the verge of graduating from high school. This instrument provided background data on respondents including age, gender, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status, parents' education, parents' occupation, educational expectations, educational aspirations, occupational expectations and occupational aspirations. Six years later, a mailed questionnaire was sent to respondents form Phase One. In this phase, respondents' educational and occupational achievements were determined... By providing longitudinal data on the plight of high school graduates, this article attempts to illustrate the need for making educational planning more relevant to the changing socio-economic environment.
