Abstract	Der Band vereint Beitraege, die anlaesslich einer Konferenz zum Thema "Languages and Linguistics: The Interdependence of Theory, Data and Application" verfasst wurden, die - unter gemeinsamer Leitung des amerikanischen Lehrerverbandes TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) und der Sprachenabteilung der Georgetown University, Washington, D. C. - im Jahre 1985 als Georgetown University Round Table (GURT) abgehalten wurde. Die Arbeiten widmen sich der Interdependenz von linguistischer Theorie und praktischer Sprachanwendung und beleuchten verschiedene Aspekte der Bereiche Grammatik, Semantik, Lexik, Phonologie sowie Probleme der Textlinguistik und Diskursanalyse, der Methodik und Didaktik des Fremdsprachenunterrichts und der Spracherwerbsforschung.
