| Abstract | The focus of this article is on the development of writing as part of literary in the foreign language, i.e. process and product knowledge derived from specific writing forms and formats. This goal is especially dealt with in different parts of the Common European Framework of References for Languages and the Standards of Education (Bildungsstandards) current in all types of German secondary education. The Standards of Education also reference canonized forms of writing in foreign language teaching: heuristic forms of writing to develop process and product knowledge, as well as evaluate forms. Other central forms of writing in foreign language teaching feature different forms of cooperation (individual, cooperative and collaborative) and different forms of knowledge (process and product knowledge), and thus mark the intersection with teaching methodology. Diagnostic multilingual writing complements the writing forms mentioned above. The article will finish by taking a look at culturally shaped forms of writing in France and English-speaking countries.
