Abstract	"Following the arguments from an intense public and scientific debate, this paper has analysed the effect of a German PES on employability and social inclusion. Compared to other PES, the one under discussion seemed to be particularly likely to influence these outcomes in a positive way. In order to identify the programme effect, I combined administrative data with self-conducted survey data on treatment and control observations to conduct semi-parametric DiD-estimations. The estimated effects do not indicate any effect on cognitive skills or social problems, but limited positive effects on social inclusion and social skills. Moreover, participants perceive their activities as meaningful and valuable work experience. Neither changes in the matching algorithm nor the construction of gender-specific sub-samples substantively changed the results." (Text excerpt, © 2018 Elsevier).
