In this article a hybrid redox flow battery is presented in which an aqueous solution based on methylene blue is used as catholyte. The crucial advantage is the impressive color change of the electrolyte, which helps to determine the state of charge of this redox flow battery. For the first time it is possible, due to the experimental setup of the hybrid redox flow battery, that the "blue bottle experiment" can be carried out by electrochemical oxidation and reduction processes in a short period of time. |
