Abstract | This booklet addresses requirements under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 concerning provision of auxiliary aids and services for students with disabilities at the postsecondary level. First, the relevant sections of Section 504 and Title II regulations are quoted and briefly explained. The following sections of the booklet cover the responsibilities of the postsecondary student with a disability, list examples of auxiliary aids (for example, taped texts, Braille printers, captioning, raised-line drawing kits), cite requirements concerning the effectiveness of auxiliary aids, discuss costs, and explain that the institution is not required to provide personal aids and services. The final section answers some commonly asked questions about auxiliary aids for library study, the instructor's attitude toward use of an auxiliary aid, the use of auxiliary aids during an examination, rights of foreign students with disabilities, provision of auxiliary services in helping students complete necessary forms, and requirements concerning provision of auxiliary aids and services for nondegree students.
