Abstract	This curriculum guide is a resource for teachers and students who wish to understand watersheds: what they are, what natural elements comprise them, and how social and political activities can influence the environmental quality within a watershed. The process of watershed study is explored, including the theories, goals and objectives of watershed studies in schools. The materials are suggested for grade levels upper elementary and above. Section 1, "Why Study Watersheds and How to Get Started," contains three chapters: (1) "What Watersheds Are and the "Whys" and "Hows" of Studying Them"; (2) "Integrating Watershed Studies into Your Classes"; and (3) "Developing a Public Relations Program to Build Support for Your Activities." Section 2, "Teaching Resources Within Watershed Activities and Background Information," contains two chapters: (1) "Critical Areas and Resources in Watersheds"; and (2) "The Impact of Man's Activities on Watersheds." Section 3, "Some Operational and Technical Skills Needed in Watershed Studies," covers the operational skills of conducting meetings, planning, problem solving, and other program activities, and technical skills for making maps, stream surveys, and other procedural methods. This publication is part of a series of guides designed to assist administrators, teachers, and students to initiate, continue, or expand environmental education programs. (LZ)
