| Abstract | This book is a compilation of selected writings on the subject of outdoor recreation. It is addressed to students specializing in recreation and resource management, and teachers, conservationists, and the public in general. Seven chapters contain articles discussing issues, facts, and concerns in the field of recreation and represent various viewpoints from leading educators, conservationists, politicians, and businessmen. The broad categories covered are: the worth of outdoor experiences; social and economic influences; resources; diminishing supply, escalating demand; economics: investment and return; preserving the recreation environment; planning and management; and education; needs and responsibilities. Under these subject headings, the various writers express their opinions, relate personal experiences, suggest solutions to problems and voice hopes for future use of outdoor space in America. (JD) |
