Abstract | With No Child Left Behind, schools are cutting extracurricular activities, doing away with aides, and even getting rid of art and physical education so that reading specialists and writing tutors can be hired. But what can the art teachers do to assist in teaching reading and writing skills? The author believes they need to provide their students with every opportunity to read and write. This will provide students with a rich vocabulary, a new way of seeing the world around them, and a fresh and exciting imagination. The author suggests that art teachers should decide what they want students to focus on when they write in art. The author mentions that teachers should vary reading and/or writing activities as much as possible. This article offers a list of reading and writing activities which is adaptable for any level and for individual or group experiences. (ERIC). |
