Abstract | The NASPE standards for physical education programs stress that students should not only achieve competence in physical skills but also acquire and integrate the underlying concepts that can lead to effective movement. Physical educators can successfully embed these underlying concepts into the daily skill instruction and guided practice in their classes by designing lessons that teach key scientific bases of movement. This article discusses Newton's laws of motion, as a scientific basis for movement skills, from an elementary school physical education perspective. It also includes guided questions designed to help the elementary physical educator to apply these laws in daily instructional activities. (Contains 2 figures and 1 table.) (As Provided). |
