Abstract	In "Historical perspectives on invariant measurement: Guttman, Rasch, and Mokken," Engelhard (2008) discusses one of the keystones of modern measurement, measurement invariance (cf. Thurstone, 1928), and traces its evolution through the work of three principal measurement theorists. Although these scholars span both parametric and nonparametric probabilistic and deterministic psychometric paradigms, Professor Engelhard shows that the measurement invariance concept may be found in each of their approaches. By using the axiom of invariant measurement, his treatment concisely elucidates the similarities and differences of Guttman, Mokken, and Rasch's work. This article presents the author's critique on "Historical perspectives on invariant measurement: Guttman, Rasch, and Mokken" and offers three supplementary or clarifying comments on the general topic of measurement invariance. It begins with a simplified presentation of a diagram by Torgeson (1958). (Contains 1 figure.) (ERIC).
