Abstract | This paper draws on emerging findings from a CfBT Education Trust funded research project, "From self-evaluation to school improvement--the importance of effective professional development (Sef2Si)." On the journey from self-evaluation to school improvement, the authors wanted to identify what schools do that works, how people help each other, how obstacles are overcome and what can be done to ensure even greater improvement. In this paper, they explore the following: the aims of the SEF, the processes of self-evaluation that schools go through in order to complete the form, the issues that have arisen, and the SEF's usefulness for school improvement.
