Abstract | This article identifies the inherent differences between statistics and the law, underscores the difficulty of combining the two in cases involving higher education issues, and then addresses how the two can and should be mutually supportive of each other. When these two divergent disciplines are forced to combine and statistical evidence is introduced, conflicts often arise from misunderstandings on how lawyers and statisticians see the world. It is the intention of this article to increase the awareness and appreciation of how these two disciplines may work in tandem so that the scope and potential of both may be more fully realized.
