Abstract | Good nutrition during the 1,000-day window between pregnancy and 2 years old can give children the opportunity to reach their full potential. Conversely, malnutrition early in life can cause irreversible damage to a child's brain development and physical growth, leading to a lifetime of poor health and lost potential. Each year, malnutrition costs the global economy hundreds of billions of dollars in lost productivity and health care costs. Despite a strong evidence base, global nutrition has been historically undervalued by donors and governments, leaving a significant funding gap and an inability to deliver the high-impact interventions researchers know work. 1,000 Days, an independent nonprofit organization, works around the globe to advocate for increased investment in those proven interventions that can save and improve lives.
